Kaveri Sitaram Vaidya is working as assistant teacher at Zilla Parishad Primary School Pratapnagar in Jalna District of Maharashtra.
Abstract
This paper focuses on activities to develop reading skill of the fourth standard students. My fourth class students could not read English words in a sentence. I used letter cards, word cards, picture cards, sentence cards and various tools. I modelled reading and showed videos which helped the students to understand the pronunciation. I began with reading two-letter words, then three-letter words and so on. The students learned to create words from letters and read them aloud. They began to read the words intelligibly. The students then started reading English words in the books and out of books and progressed to the sentence level.
